Privacy Policy

BuyPerUnit collects very little: general usage analytics for everyone, and an email address only if you choose to submit a price alert or an error report. We don't run ads, don't use ad-tracking networks, and don't sell your data.

What We Collect

Usage analytics (everyone). We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get traffic and which affiliate links get clicked — page views, session duration, approximate location (city/country level, derived from IP), device and browser type, and events like clicking through to a retailer or opening a price alert form. This data is not tied to your name or email unless you separately give us one (see below).

Layout and session analytics. We also run Microsoft Clarity, Vercel Analytics, and Stoked Tech analytics. Clarity records session replays and heatmaps — where you scroll, what you click, where you get stuck — so we can find broken layouts and confusing pages. It records mouse movement, clicks, and scrolling, but not what you type. Clarity masks the contents of input boxes in every masking mode, and that can't be switched off. Clarity only runs if you accept cookies on the banner — decline and its script is never loaded, so nothing is recorded. Vercel Analytics and Stoked Tech record page-level traffic and performance. As with Google Analytics, none of this is tied to your name or email unless you separately give us one. None of these are advertising tools, and none of them receive your email address.

Email address (only if you opt in). If you use the bell icon on a product page to set a price alert, we store the email address you enter, the product and target price you asked to be notified about, and add that email to our mailing list (via our email provider, Resend) so we can send you the alert. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every alert email, or by emailing us (see Contact below).

If you use the “report an issue” tool on a listing or product page to flag a wrong price or bad data, the email field there is optional — we only use it if we need to follow up on your report.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't run display or programmatic ads on the site.
  • We don't use ad-retargeting or cross-site ad-tracking networks.
  • We don't sell, rent, or share your data with data brokers.
  • We don't share your price-alert email with Amazon, Best Buy, or Newegg — it only exists in our own alert system and mailing list.

Cookies & Similar Technology

Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity each set their own cookies in your browser to distinguish sessions and return visits. If you submit the price alert form, Cloudflare Turnstile (our bot filter) may set a short-lived cookie to verify the submission is human. None of these are used for advertising.

When you click an outbound product link to Amazon, Best Buy, or Newegg, that retailer sets its own affiliate-tracking cookie so we can be credited for the referral if you buy something — that cookie belongs to the retailer and is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

On your first visit we ask whether to turn analytics cookies on. Until you accept, Google Analytics runs in Google's consent-denied mode — no analytics cookies — and Microsoft Clarity is not loaded at all, so no session is recorded. Your answer is stored in your own browser, and you can at any time to bring the banner back.

To opt out of Google Analytics tracking, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or enable “Do Not Track” / block third-party cookies in your browser settings — the site works the same either way, since analytics is not required for any core feature. Blocking third-party scripts or cookies also stops Microsoft Clarity, Vercel Analytics, and Stoked Tech from recording your visit.

Data Retention

Analytics data follows Google Analytics 4's standard event-retention settings — see Google's documentation for current defaults, since Google can change them. Microsoft Clarity keeps session recordings for 30 days, except for favorited recordings and a random sample it holds up to 9 months; heatmaps are available for up to 9 months. That schedule is set by Microsoft, not us — see Clarity's FAQ for the current policy.

Price alert emails are kept until the alert triggers, you unsubscribe, or you ask us to delete them. Issue reports are kept as long as needed to investigate and correct the underlying data.

Requesting Deletion

To stop receiving price alerts, use the unsubscribe link in any alert email. To request that we delete your email address and any associated alerts entirely, email [email protected] and we'll remove it from our alert system and mailing list.

Children's Privacy

BuyPerUnit is a general-audience price-comparison tool and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes materially, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
